| Formosan Termite Damage |
Formosan termites can eat you out of house and home. The average size colony of Formosan Termites can consume up to three pounds of wood per day. Imported to the US in the 1960's Formosan Termites are indigenous to china and are designed to thrive in a rocky environment. Due to their evolution in this environment, a single formosan termite can secret an acid that can dissolve concrete, steel, copper, lead, glass and many other building materials to get to wood. This termite is commonly found in the coastal areas of Florida.
Each year Formosan Termites chewed their way through millions of dollars in wood in South Florida and billions of dollars to the southern tip of the US. Formosan Termites dissolve building materials to get to there feeding site and consume wood quickly. Twenty percent of all formosan termite infestations are above ground and have no contact with the earth at all. Once an infestation is established in a structure they move above ground in nests that they construct themselves called Carton Nests. These cartons must be located and a treatment strategy designed for treatment and/or removal. |
| Treatment Strategies & Results |
Since 1991, Beseech Exterminators have been successfully treating formosan termites in the south florida area and has saved homeowners and businesses millions of dollars in wood damage. We are nationally recognized by several major corporations, and our client list includes Bayer, BASF, FMC, Segmental and others. Check out our Industry Research page for more info.
Our first priority in any treatment strategy is the inspection. We understand the importance of the pintail inspection and we employ the highest technology possible to provide you with the best results and the least damage. We follow the inspection with a liquid soil treatment around the perimeter of the structure. This creates a treatment zone that is non-repellant and allows termites to enter freely without detecting the materials. When the termites interact with one another, they transfer the active ingredient to other termites in the colony hence eliminating more termites.
Next, we treat the attic, crawl space and other critical areas with an odorless, non-repellant material. Foam technology is used to treat raw structural wood and also spaces not normally accessible. Additionally, using foam technology allows the maximum amount of active ingredient with the least amount of liquid for a more consist ant and stable treatment application.
We employ BASF Subtrefuge Bait Stations which is the most quickly detected bait station on the market. BASF Subtrefuge termite bait formulation affords rapid active feeding at bait sites. We install these in key areas around the structure, in conjunction with soil termicides to provide feedback on treatment success and to document the degree of termite pressure in and around your property. This can be valuable data, however we do not recommend stand alone bait stations for this termite species.
We follow up with inspections at 7 days, 14 days and 30 days after the initial inspection and thereafter every 90 days. These inspections can include exclusive services such as Infrared photos of treated areas, microwave detection and k-9 detection.
In addition to the normal benefits that these inspections provide, additional data is received concerning moisture intrusion. It's important to reduce or eliminate the environment that termites find necessary to live, that's why out trained inspectors define all areas in your home that are 20% moist or over. With the customers co-operation in making the appropriate repairs, these preventative measures will have a positive effect on keeping your property formosan termite free. |

Termites are a concern for homeowners in 49 of the 50 states. The most serious threat that your home may face is an attack from termites. No matter how your home is constructed, where it is located or how old it is, it could be attacked by termites.
Termites are a threat across 70% of the world including every part of the continental United States and cause billions of dollars in uninsurable damage each year in the US alone. In any given year , termites damage more homes than fires and the cost of termite damage is about twice that of storm damage annually.
Eastern subterranean termites are social insects that live in large underground colonies. They enter your home through the foundation and other vulnerable areas. Although they can number in millions, you may not initially see them or any evidence of them, until you discover that they have done serious damage. Subterranean termites can hollow out beams, damage walls and reduce wood floors or trim to a paper thin veneer.
The Formosan Termite is an Asian variety of subterranean termite imported to the U. S. sometime in the mid 1960's. Since then South Florida, New Orleans, parts of Southern Texas and, in fact the whole southern tip of the United States have been affected by this devastating wood destroyer.
Dry wood termites colonize in wood and cause millions of dollars worth of damage to structures each year. They are difficult to inspect for because they often do their damage in hidden places. To make things even more difficult, dry wood termites do not stay in their colonies main gallery, but frequently migrate from place to place. They have no contact with the ground and are completely self contained within the wood that they are eating. For more info about our dry wood termite services. visit our fumigation and tenting alternative pages.
West Indian and Arboreal termites can also be found in South Florida and although less common, they are just as damaging as their brothers. We offer specific treatment plans for each species, please contact us for more information about our west indian and arboreal termite services. |
| Identification Tips |
|

Homeowners often confuse termites with ants , and understandably so. Subterranean termites are found in the earth and often move in a file like ants. All termite species swarm as a part of their reproduction, and swarmers are often confused with flying ants. It's important to know the subtle differences between the two pests.....
Look at the pest's waist. If it's narrow, the pest is probably an ant. A wide waist may mean you have a termite problem not an ant problem. Termites have four equal size wings, flying ants have two equal size wings. Warning: if you see either of these pests, contact us for a free inspection by a Bestec pest control professional. |
