Code name exotic tree-termites, this newly discovered breed of Termite l nasutitermes costacalis originally found in 2000 by Bestec Exterminors, is now recognized as the first sighting of this kind in North America to be used for a case study by a worldwide Company BASF .
Through the work of Dr. Rudy Scheffrahn, BASF and Bayer™ Corporation, treatment specifications were tested and confirmed to be the standard treatment method for this species of termite in the U.S. Bestec Exterminators was very proud to have the opportunity to be a major part in obtaining these specifications.
A task force was formed from various State Regulators, City and County Officials, University of Florida Researchers, Bestec Exterminators, as well as other CPCO & FPA members. They set out to eradicate the exotic tree-termite nasutitermes in South Florida.
The infested site is a 50 acre area in Dania Beach near the Ft. Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport including several moble homes and boats within that area. The teams were armed with materials donated by Bayer, BASF, Dow and Lesco.
Complete elimination of of an established population of non-native termites had never been undertaken, Dr. Scheffrahn confirms. At this time it would be too early to say to what measure the eradication was a success. Unlike other termites, the above ground species will be easily detected should a re-emerge occur. I suspect that over 90% of the population was reduced. We are looking forward to seeing what the future brings on code name tree-termite. |
